After seeing the long line outside Mrs. Mac's Kitchen, we settled on this place because my daughter loves Italian food and there was no line - first red flag. Although less than half the tables were occupied, we were told we would have to wait for a table because we didn't have a reservation - second red flag. We waited quite a while for our waitress to refresh drinks and offer refills of water and iced tea to the neighboring tables before she took our order. Good sign, I thought; she'll keep our glasses filled. Unfortunately, she never offered me a refill on my iced tea. The worst part of the experience was the food - it was awful. The garlic rolls were dripping in oil. My mahi sandwich was a piece of overcooked fish on a ciabatta roll - no tomato, lettuce or dressing. It came with decent pasta salad and horrible polenta fries - tasteless and no ketchup on the table to help pretend they were french fries. When the waitress asked how everything was and we couldn't find anything to say, she didn't ask what was wrong; I don't think she cared. Terrible food, terrible service, never going back.

Let me start by saying I don't work for this resturant and I have no relationship with anyone at the place. I was just visiting Key Largo from Phoenix. Overall, I liked this place. It was not the best I've ever had but it's a good choice if you're looking for an Italian meal. I got a meatball sandwhich (I know, not exactly hard core Italain) but it was pretty good. The main meals are fairly pricey. Say $25-20 before drinks. Not too bad but expensive if you have a big family. Overall, not a bad choice. Service was good...and it was nicely painted

What a great place! We loved our dinner here. The service was great! I tried the linguine with little neck clams. Hearty portion and great sauce! My husband had the linguine with calamari. Also a great portion and delicious : ) Thanks for a great last dinner in paradise!

In Key Largo on vacation & decided to try this place after reading reviews. Glad we did. Atmosphere casual, homey, family restaurant. Service great - prompt & very friendly. We had lasagna & gnocchi bolognaise - both really good. Prices reasonable & good sized portions.

We had one of the most unhappy, unhelpful waitresses here! The dish I ordered was supposed to come with a choice of pasta. I asked what the choices were and she just replied, "spaghetti." When my wife's dish came she flagged down a different waitress and asked where her risotto was. Our waitress had neglected to tell us that they were out of it and they would sub spaghetti! After dealing with the surly, incompetent waitress but enjoying our food, I was very surprised to see one of those automatic 18% tips added, since we were a party of 3.

great food, very generous portions, fun waitress. frutti de mare, seafood ravioli, calamari to start

The food here was just "average". Honestly, I've had better Italian meals at Olive Garden. But since there are not many food choices in this area, this is about the only decent choice in regards to Italian food. The dinner salad served with the entrées, along with the bread topped with real garlic and butter, was the best part in regards to food. The friendly staff was the best part overall. They accepted my Yelp! online coupon for the free glass of wine if you check-in there, even though they'd never heard of the offer.

This is truly my favorite restaurant in my home town. The veal is a specialty, as well as other Italian treats. There are lots of good restaurants in the Keys, but after your 3rd fish dinner, you should try Cafe Largo. I love the Veal Picatta (ask for angel hair pasta on the side with the Picatta sauce on it). They usually have great specials -- Oso Buco, Lamb Shanks, drool . . . you get the idea.

This place is amazing! The garlic knots were to die for. We both got pizza and it was delicious. Tiramisu and cannoli for dessert....everything was amazing. And it is all made in house. Jessica was a great server. This is best and most friendly service we've had while visiting the keys!

I had been staying right up the road walking distance for the last 3 years for the summer and this was the first time eating at this Italian restaurant. I should have tried this place years ago loving Italian cuisine. This is not your Chicago Italian, nor your New York Italian, this is Italian Italian. The Family migrated from Italy and opened this restaurant in 1968 and now the Son is running this fine dining establishment. Upon walking in we were greeted at by a beautiful young lady who took us to our table. I noticed everything was very clean and well decorated. Our server was Jessica and I have to say she is an asset to the establishment. Whenever we needed something she was there is a second like she had been watching us closely. Very attentive and knowledgeable on all menu items. I ordered Clams Casino for my appetizer and I must say it was very good. The Garlic Knots were great tasting along with the Caesar salad I ordered for an extra $2.99. For the main course I had the Veal Parmigiana which came with a side of pasta. We had a free glass of Chianti with the YELP check in offer which was a bonus. Over all the dining experience was great and the others in my party were all pleased with their meals. I will be back and recommend trying this place if you're in the Key Largo Area.

My favorite Italian place in the upper keys! The baskets of garlic knots keep on coming. They have lots of garlic & oil, however, we were able to custom make ours without so much oil. Good little Italian spot where you can come to get a break from all the other local fish & seafood restaurants.

The place is good for dinner. I had the Penne Vodka which was typical, nothing special. The stuffed meatball appetizer was one oversized meatball with some cheese in the middle. I would pass on this appeti

We went for dinner last night. Our appetizer was a cheese stuffed meatball with marinara sauce. It was super!! My main dish was the linguine and clam sauce, that was the bomb. Absolutely loved the meal!!

Two nights in a row fine service and excellent food here. Hog fish as fresh as it comes the first night, the next night veal, paella, seafood canelloni, escargot and pizza -- not a single step wrong. Laura a cheerful and swift server with charm.

  • Chris Z.

Starting with the wine, bread, lasagna, tiramisu, pasta primavera were all outstanding! No wait at 645pm on a Friday night but by 8pm every table was full! Great service, friendly staff I would definitely go back!

  • Vanna T.

Ordered the spaghetti and meatballs dish to go. Sauce and meatballs were a bit bland. Garlic knots were just okay; also a bit bland. Not sure if I am a fan of this place...they also forgot to pack silverware :/

  • Nichole B.

Classic "red sauce" Italian style. Generous portions. My husband had a seafood linguini and I couldn't believe how much seafood was on it; more seafood than pasta! I had the manicotti which was heavy and cheesy as it should be. Very large dining room that could easily accommodate large groups. Lots of vegetarian options.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food and service both were excellent. We each had a special- I had Chicken with peppercorn crust, topped with tomatoes, mushrooms, asparagus and crab. Grandparents had filet tips and lamb chops. Everything was cooked perfectly medium for the grandparents and the dishes were tasty. The salads and vegetable sides were extremely fresh. Large portions so we took food home! They have a lengthy wine list to choose from and out waiter was perfectly attentive. We shared a cannoli and tiramisu for desert. It was my first time, but it is one of my grandparents go-to restaurants, so I am sharing this review on their behalf! A great restaurant in Key Largo.

Food is 5 star!!! Service was 1 star. Soup bread entree were amazing. Waitress wandered around and talked with co workers while my water sat empty all night. Even after I asked for refill took 5 min to get it. Only had 2 tables. Other servers looked attentive. We just got a bad draw. Would still go back since food was so good.

We seem to be chasing restaurants with murals. (Yesterday was Num Thai. ) This one was of Venice and pretty well done, so shame on the son who painted over the other 3/4 last year. But you want to hear about the food. We started with the clams casino which disappointed. The breading was soggy, and the bacon was miniscule. But then, Redemption ! Out came the homemade knotted rolls hot from the oven, covered in fresh garlic and dripping in butter. Wifey ate one in the parking lot while leaving, they were so good. The hubster, who lives for and makes darn good meatballs, found these uninspired, a shocking thing for a family Italian restaurant. Wifey, on the other hand, who struggles with decision making, had the problem taken off her hands with the Tour of Italy, a flight of house faves : Chicken Marsala, Manicotti, and Meat Lasagna. Two out of three were great, so we'll excuse the chicken which tasted "off." All in all, we'd go back, if only for those orgasmic rolls.

This place is amazing. The chicken Marsala is some of the best I've ever had. The Mariana sauce is rich and great dark tomato flavor. A must stop if you like authentic Italian cuisine.

Waitress was excellent, yielded to every command. The Food was excellent from the appetizers to the entrees. The environment is beautiful and the music is soft, the decorations are pretty and go well with the atmosphere. If you are in Key Largo eat at this restaurant it's well worth it.

Loved it!! The food is delicious had the veal cordon blu special chic parm escargot stuffed meatballs and tiramisu! Only downfall was I felt the courses came to quickly and our server was not that great. We are locals and would definitely come back it was yummy!!!

This was a great experience. We showed up a little tired and very hungry. The service was quick. We were early so it was not busy but when we left it had filled up. The food was very good. Michelle and I split the the taste of Italy. The kids had pizza. They have some craft beer choices and a lengthy wine list. Prices were good for the quality. They serve fresh baked dinner rolls as the bread with an unusual topping of butter and sautéed garlic.

Great place to stop on the way down to Key West. Service was great as was the food. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal with good service. We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't too busy either.

Great food, good service and a fine wine list. It's listed as $$$ but we paid $45 per person including tip for a great dinner and 2 bottles of wine much the -- same as other places nearby that are $$. Best key lime pie in the key largo area.

Best meal I've had so far in Key Largo. Pizza entirely from scratch, bolognese slow roasted and Cream of Artichoke with Shrimp was divine.

I was there with a large group, our meal was delicious, our server was a little overwhelmed with a couple large groups, but was personable and polite. The dining area had some quirky decor that could be streamlined a bit, and some serious dusting would help make the overall impression much better. I was happy with the meal and server!!

Excellent service and food. We've been there several times and the quality is consistently great. Lasagna, gnocchi, and the filet tips are fantastic. Perfect blend of Italian and "Keys" atmosphere.

The review only applies to the food (though our waitress was lovely too) - everything we ordered was delicious. The highlights are on the menu for Specials, including the white fish and the short rib spaghetti. I am a fan of Italian cuisine and dined at some best Italian spots in New York City. These two dishes were simply among the finest I've ever tried. I also liked the spinach we ordered as a side. The stuffed mushroom with crab meat was okay - a little too salty for me. We used the 10% off card provided by our hotel. My waitress also honored my yelp check-in award - a glass of red wine. The total meal was only about $70; but everything was amazing!

Wonderful food and service by Tammy. She gave great recommendations for the area to two newbie tourists. My fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp was so tasty and hubby's veal parm was also good. Loved the salad and dressing and for a pair that loves garlic, the garlic bread was perfect. But the highlight was definitely Tammy's service. We loved her!!!

  • Jeffrey K.

Very disappointing, the atmosphere has a great deal to be desired. The ceiling alone isa didistraction to the meal, as it is exposed acoustic/fire retardant spray. As for the food,it was mediocre at best. Tuscan chicken was ove rmarinated and the noodles on the lasagna were undercooked, would not recommend either. The pizza was delicious and our server was very attentive. However, walked in with higher expectations, will avoid on our future trips to the keys.

This restaurant is a classic old-school Italian-American place. They have become rare in the US, and this place nailed the flavors and portions. Regarding my 5 stars, I'm not saying this is a "5-star restaurant"; it is a family-run, old-school Italian-American restaurant, and in that category, it's tops. We happened to stumble in on a Monday night, which at the time was "Spaghetti & Chianti Night"-- talk about good luck when you walk into an Italian restaurant! The spaghetti was $8, with your choice of one of about 4 sauces, and came with salad and fresh garlic knots and warm sliced bread. Actually, the hot garlic knots and warm bread are given to every table ever night--thankfully, because they kick serious butt! And, rounding out our Monday night special, Chianti was $5 per glass. Note that there are actually 8 sauces available on the menu, but only 4 were available if you wanted the $8 special; otherwise a plate of spaghetti would be about $12. This may be an academic point, as their website currently indicates a different Monday night special... We had the marinara sauce and the tomato sauce. Both were fantastic. They were different, with the marinara having more of a "fresh" tomato flavor, while the tomato sauce had a rich cooked tomato flavor. Darker in color and deeper in flavor. If I had to choose one of these, I'd flip a coin. The included side salad was large. If it hadn't been Spaghetti & Chianti Night, the choice of entree would have been tough, as there are many excellent-sounding vegetarian options--something I cannot say of very many other restaurants in the Keys. We really enjoyed our meal here, and would definitely be back next time we're in the area!

  • Meaghen S.

Wow!!! We came because of the free chianti offer on yelp, so I wasn't expecting much more than the glass of wine and decent enough food. WOW totally blew us away! Our sever Rihanna was ON POINT. She was fun and patient, and suggested the best items on the menu. We got what she recommended: the paella, osso bucco, mahi mahi chefs special, and garlic shrimp linguine...I honestly can't tell you which one was the best. Everything tasted like it was made from angels in heaven. I wanted so desperately to try the Nutella cheesecake, but we were way to stuffed and falling into a food coma so someone else is going to have to give me that update ;)

A cute little authentic Italian restaurant in the Key Largo section of the keys. If you are driving to the keys from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and are looking for a place to stop for a meal, this is a great option at the beginning of the keys (about 2 hours to Key West). You are also able to make reservations online. We stopped by on a Tuesday night and were surprised to see the restaurant 3/4 of the way full. I opted for the gnocchi which came with a mix of meat and tomato cream sauce. The pasta meal also included a salad. The salad was the only disappointing part of the meal as it consisted of an iceberg mix with a pepper and a couple tomatoes on top. Their house dressing is also a creamy italian. The only other option was oil and vinegar. The real star of the meal was the basket of garlic knots. Fresh rolls with garlic oil poured over top and big chunks of roasted garlic. Garlic lovers rejoice, they were heavenly. The gnocchi was also quite deliciously and obviously homemade as the little dough balls varied in shape and size. Overall, this was a great choice. Thanks again fellow yelpers!

  • Jeff H.

Loved this restaurant. I'm a big garlic fan, and the bread they served at the start of the meal had big chunks of very fresh garlic in it. Plus I loved their check-in deal... check in, and get a free glass of wine which was normally $7! Can't top that. We both ordered pasta with marinara sauce... mine with veggies, and my girlfriend with muscles. Both pastas were very fresh and portions were very large, neither of us able to finish. Dining room was very large, and even though it was a busy weekend night, we had fast service and had no wait. Impressive. Next time I'm in Key Largo, I'll be back here for sure.

For years I've been getting the mahi sandwich and other sandwiches from this place and they been great but now the owner Robert took all the sandwiches off the menu and I heard it was because it was too much work for him and the other chef. They didn't want to make them anymore. I also used to get the beef tips appetizer and Robert took that off the menu also. They also used to have great french fries with a sandwiches and they no longer have those also. Tonight, I had ordered the mahi dinner and I found out that I can't get it blackened and anymore! They don't do any blackening anymore either and all it is is a seasoning on the fish which I loved as well as many other local residents and tourists here. It's too bad that they made all of these changes. The keys are a small town and word travels fast.

Respectable, traditional Italian fare. Definitely kid/family friendly with a spacious dining room, broad tables that are well spaced and acoustics that help absorb the noise of conversation, rattling dishes, etc. Ordered pasta and pizza. Veggie ingred's were fresh & cooked to tender, not overcooked or soggy. Pasta arrived al dente in sauce that was rich and creamy. Chicken in pasta dishes was inconsistently cooked, with some bites tender and moist, others tough and dry. Pizza was topped with flavorful, fresh ingred's and crust was tender, light and perfectly cooked. Complimentary garlic rolls were tasty, but could be improved by using soft, golden roasted garlic instead of simply sauteeing chopped garlic in oil, as the garlic was very "raw". Would definitely recommend for casual & family dining with respectable fare at a reasonable cost (for the Keys).

Cafe Largo has great food and a large menu to choose from. They have a nice selection of wines and beverages as well. The interior is a bit dated but so is everywhere in the Keys. I wish more of their pasta was homemade. Overall its a nice casual place to grab a good Italian dinner.

  • R.B. D.

DiGiorgio's is a wonderful place for a great Italian meal. The food was excellent and the service was warm and attentive. It is one of the best meals I had while in the Keys, top five I would say. My only complaint was the graham cracker crust on the cheesecake. The cheesecake itself was orgasmic, but the cracker crust unnecessary. Just eat around it! PS: I got a free glass of wine for checking in, hopefully you will too.

Now I am a huge fan of this place that I went here twice in three nights! The people are very friendly and truly like their job. Our waitress sat with us and chatted and that is something that I appreciate. It was across the street from my hotel and was an easy choice. The food was amazing and I highly recommend a few things: Chicken Parmesan soup - yep, you read that correctly Gnocchi in Bolognese - freaking awesome! I will hit this place up every time that I visit the Keys

We were here for vacation and came here because of a coupon in a book the rental car company gave us. What a treat! Really really good Italian food. I had Veil piccata - perfect - lots of capers, meat cooked tender, etc. the rest of the family had pizza, sausage pasta and the vodka penne pasta. All of it was incredible. Our server, Kayla, was very attentive but not intrusive. Our bus boy brought rolls (that he said he made) that were covered in garlic and olive oil... Wow. My wife said the meal was the best Italian meal she ever had. I am not sure if I would go that far, but it was damn good.

Great place for dinner in Key Largo! We were seated as soon as we came in (with no reservation). Our waitress Sharon was friendly, funny and attentive. She engaged our children in conversation, and made all of us smile. Our party of two adults, one preteen and one teen ordered the soup of the day (chicken noodle), a small cheese pizza to share, a burger, the NY strip steak, and the penne with meatballs & chicken strips from the kids menu. It was all fabulous (soup was a tad salty). We also had a bottle of Cabernet but I don't remember which one. It was very good - we took home the last glass left in the bottle. In fact, our waitress offered us a "to-go" cup with a lid so we didn't have to leave behind the half glass we each had left! How awesome is that?! Extremely enjoyable meal; we'll be sure to return!

I was so excited to go to DiGiorgio's for dinner. I read the reviews and looked at the menu on their website, which all got me excited. When I went to order what I decided on from the menu on their website, the server told me they didn't have what I wanted. Apparently, the menu on their website is wrong. They have Veal Piccata, but they do not have chicken piccata. I was so disappointed and didn't really understand how they could make one, but not the other when they have chicken. Either way, I ordered eggplant Parmesan and I definitely have had better at Olive Garden or late night diners. The Caesar salad was subpar as well. My husband seemed to enjoy his meal and the soup of the day, but I was incredibly disappointed and do not plan to return.

  • Luis S.

The best chicken francese I've ever had. The garlic bread was very good too. My girlfriend ordered a stuffed meatball that was full of flavor. I even got a complimentary glass of wine for checking in on Yelp. The waitresses were stressed out because it was busy, they could have handled it better, but we did get seated and served fairly quick. Over all this restaurant was good, I highly recommend it.

  • Eric M.

Homemade pasta! We had the chicken parm, which was delicious. My son got the Marsala and ate the entire dish. We didn't have room for dessert, but I hear they are excellent. The only knock I would give this place is that they serve Pepsi, so, go with the water.

  • Gen M.

For the Keys this place was ok. The garlic bread knots were alright but I bet they would be better fresh and warm, not cold. The salad was decent, fresh veggies and I liked the creamy italian dressing. I had the trio of lasagna, chicken marsala and manicotti. The lasagna and manicotti tasted very similar but he lasagna had meat, they were ok. The chicken marsala was the better of the three, but it was a little on the sweet side. I don't think I'd get the same thing if go back, maybe try something lighter. My husband had the chicken parmesan and said it was ok, he only ate a few bites though so it couldn't have been that good. If you want italian this is probably your best option down here. If this was out of the keys I'd give it two stars.

    (3)
  • Sau y.

Overall the food was not good, but the staff was friendly and excellent, so an extra star for that, making it overall 3 stars. If service had been average, it would definitely be 2 stars or less. The bread and chicken marsala was the best thing about this place. I got the lobster special stuffed with crab. 1.25 lb lobster- hardly. It was tiny, and not only that they took some of the lobster meat out. It was 90% crab stuffing. The sauce in the lasagna & other red sauce pasta dishes tasted like... chef boyardee (sp?) canned sauce. It was really... kind of gross. Overall, not what I expected when a local told me "pretty good Italian food." Maybe I've been spoiled by good food...

This really made me "feel" the Keys. Fun Florida decor. Bright and happy. Not only was the food fantastic, but the staff was so friendly and attentive, you felt like you were among friends. The family atmosphere will make me return again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì.
